Judge Claria Horn Boom has served as a United States District Court Judge for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky since 2018, one of only a handful of “swing judges” who serve two federal districts. In addition, Judge Boom recently served as a Commissioner on the United States Sentencing Commission from 2022 until early 2025, when her term expired. Prior to becoming a Judge, she practiced law at Frost Brown Todd in Lexington, Kentucky. Early in her career, Judge Boom served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Offices in both the Eastern District of Kentucky and the Western District of Kentucky, spanning 1998 to 2002. From 1995 to 1998, Judge Boom was as an associate at King & Spalding in Atlanta. Judge Boom began her law career as a law clerk for the Hon. Judge Pierce Lively on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, 1994 to 1995.
Judge Boom received her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, with Order of the Coif honors, and her B.A. from Transylvania University, summa cum laude.
